-- Robert M. Pirsig

-- Ambrose Bierce
"In every religion the priest insists on five things First: There is a God. Second: He has made known his will. Third: He has selected me to explain this message. Fourth: We will now take up a collection; and Fifth: Those who fail to subscribe will certainly be damned."
-- "Has Freethought a Constructive Side?", printed in The Truth Seeker, New York 1890

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

"I've no belief whatever in a deity outside of man; it seems to me to be perfectly clear that the bible's story gets it completely the wrong way round. It's not God creates man, it's Man who creates god. It's a human construct."

"We must repsect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children are smart."
--Henry Mencken
"You are never dedicated to do something you have complete confidence in. No one is fanatically shouting that the sun is going to rise tomorrow. They know it's going to rise tomorrow. When people are fanatically dedicated to political or religious faiths or any other kind of dogmas or goals, it's always because these dogmas or goals are in doubt."
-- Robert M. Pirsig, "Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"

"The biggest cause of trouble in the world today is that the stupid people are so sure about things and the intelligent folks are so full of doubts."
--Bertrand Russell
"The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one."
--George Bernard Shaw
"Atheism is not a philosophy; it is not even a view of the world; it is simply an admission of the obvious. In fact, 'atheist' is a term that should not ever exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a 'non astrologer' or a 'non-alchemist'. We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs. An atheist is simply a person who believes that the 260 million Americans (87 percent of the population) claiming to 'never doubt the existence of God' should be obliged to present evidence for his existence-and, indeed, for his BENEVOLENCE, given the relentless destruction of innocent human beings we witness in the world each day."
--Sam Harris, "Letter to a Christian Nation"
"The only difference between God and Adolph Hitler is that God is more proficient at genocide."
"Why do you write to me "God should punish the English"? I have no close connection to either one or the other. I see only with deep regret that God punishes so many of His children for their numerous stupidities, for which only He Himself can be held responsible; in my opinion, only His nonexistence could excuse Him."
-- Albert Einstein, in a letter to a friend
"No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says; he is always convinced that it says what he means."
--George Bernard Shaw
"It isn't the parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand."
--Mark Twain
"A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything."
--Friedrich Nietzsche
"It would be very nice if there were a God who created the world and was a benevolent providence, and if there were a moral order in the universe and an after-life; but it is a very striking fact that all this is exactly as we are bound to wish it to be."
--Sigmund Freud

Nice Collection...
you seem to be a cynic. perhaps you were thinking about price, not value :D
btw some of the quotes are about religion, others about god. are you an atheist or an agnostic or simply irreligious? i'd love to know :P
When it comes to religion, yes, I might be a cynic.
Am I an atheist or agnostic or irreligious ?
lets see what they mean?
Atheism:
Atheism, as a philosophical view, is the position that either affirms the non-existence of gods or rejects theism. Many self-described atheists are skeptical of all supernatural beings and cite a lack of empirical evidence for the existence of deities.Although many self-described atheists tend toward secular philosophies such as humanism and naturalism, there is no one ideology or set of behaviors to which all atheists adhere.
Agnosticism:
Agnosticism (from the Greek a, meaning "without", and gnosticism or gnosis, meaning "knowledge") is the philosophical view that the truth value of certain claims—particularly metaphysical claims regarding theology, afterlife or the existence of God, gods, deities, or even ultimate reality—is unknown or, depending on the form of agnosticism, inherently unknowable due to the nature of subjective experience. Essentially, an Agnostic is one who doesn't believe you can prove there's a God, but doesn't deny it's possible a God may exist.
Irreligion:
Irreligion, irreligiousness, or nonreligion is an umbrella term which, depending on context, may be understood as referring to atheism, agnosticism, deism, skepticism, freethought, secular humanism or general secularism.Irreligion has at least three related yet distinct meanings:
* absence of religion (either due to not having information about religion or to not believing in it)
* hostility to religion
* behaving in such a way that fails to live up to one's religious tenets.
Although people classified as irreligious might not follow any religion, not all are necessarily without belief in the supernatural or in deities; such a person may be a non-religious or non-practicing theist. In particular, those who associate organized religion with negative qualities, but still hold spiritual beliefs, might describe themselves as irreligious.
I am not sure, but I think i identify with the idea of "atheism".
What about you?
ahhh...you took the bait! so you claim to be an atheist, eh?
if your reason to believe god doesn't exist is because there's no proof of his/her existence, then i'd like to see you disprove god's existence. if rationality is the rationale for rejecting a belief, rationality should also be the basis for accepting another, otherwise you cannot claim to be rational. if rationality is not the reason for your beliefs, i'd like to hear what is.
i believe in god's existence without any proof, because i have been unable to prove anything (not just about god, literally anything) so far.
i have come to realise that proof is merely a systematic (and sometimes un-) way of stating carefully disguised assumptions. our minds, our lives, our perception of the universe are all products of our assumptions. think about it.
start questioning, and you will find that nothing is unquestionable.

your quotes sound like an anti theist, not atheist though.

@Kris
"i believe in god's existence without any proof, because i have been unable to prove anything (not just about god, literally anything) so far."
So that means you also believe in the Pink Unicorn & the flying Spaghetti monster & ghosts & witches & Harry Potter & superheros & ... ( I guess the list is unending). I think the "I believe in something because it has not been disproved" approach might lead to internal inconsistencies in one's belief system. And it might involve believing in an almost unending set of beliefs.
"our minds, our lives, our perception of the universe are all products of our assumptions."
I Agree.
"Start questioning, and you will find that nothing is unquestionable."
Thats exactly what I am doing. "god/religion" is the first assumption i picked. There are so many other questions like "whether i exist or not" , "Is this some kind of simulation I am in" , "How can i trust my senses?" , "If we exist, how did we come to existence", "Does our existence have a purpose or is it pure chance?", etc, etc. But, i picked "god" because of the amount of significance religion holds in the Indian society where I am most likely to spend my whole life in . I knew I had to question it and make my opinions clear before its too late. Also, I saw that there is a lot more discussion on the internet on "religion" as compared to the other unknowns.
@Spirit
When Kris gave me an option of 3 terms, I just picked the term that seemed closest => an "atheist".
Wiki says antitheism is active opposition to theism. But I am not sure, what "active" opposition really means. I like writing and discussing about it. So I am not sure. But i prefer to tell people that I am an "atheist" when they ask "hey, whats ur religion?" because "anti-theism" might sound like "hating" theists. I don't hate theists. I just don't agree with their idea of an omnipotent creator.
Whatever u say dude...Harry Potter is the REAL GOD and wizardry is my religion :)
